russell's art show

this is my brother's art exhibit for the grad show at emily carr. he made the wheel and the road - the black thing on the ground.

here is my mom (looking silly - she was laughing) and jane, russell's wife.

here is the artist, explaining his work. my dad in the background.

here is the road and wheel close up. the wheel is made of wood. it's a bike wheel. people were playing with the cars on the road too. it's about space - how much space we devote to roads.

here is russell with the exhibit the day before the show.

here is the second part of his exhibit - the big wheel and the little road. the little road is called something like "comfort blanket" (sorry russell i forgot the exact name).

here is me and jane at the opening night.

here is russell, jane (understand the hat theme now?) and their friend david.

here is another view of the road. this issues are pretty big in vancouver right now that we have 2 big highway projects - expanding the sea-to-sky highway and the gateway project that will double the port mann bridge from surrey into vancouver, and create a highway feeding into the city. yay! more cars in the city. there were too few before i guess ...

no i shouldn't be so cynical. in june there was a critical mass ride through vancouver with 1800 riders. there are lots of people who are ready for transit to evolve from cars to something more human-centered.
